How to Request Employment Verification

Requesting employment verification in ClearHire is the action that asks a former or current employer to confirm a specific role on your profile, which — once confirmed — earns that role a "Verified" badge. This guide walks through sending the request, what the employer sees on their side, and how the timeout works, so you know what to expect at each step.

For the concept and what a badge does and does not prove, read the employment verification overview first.

Before you start

  • Make sure the role exists in your profile with accurate title, employer, and dates.
  • Identify a contact who can actually confirm the role — usually HR or a direct manager.
  • Verify your most important roles first; these are the ones a hiring manager will scrutinize.

Step-by-step request

  1. Open your profile and select the experience entry you want verified.
  2. Choose the option to request verification for that role.
  3. Provide the employer or contact details ClearHire needs to route the request.
  4. Submit the request.
  5. Wait for the employer to act on it (see the timeout below).
  6. When confirmed, the role displays a Verified badge.

What the employer sees

On the company side, an authorized contact receives your request through ClearHire for companies. They can review the details of the role you have asked them to confirm and then confirm or decline. Confirming acknowledges that the employment relationship existed — it does not ask them to rate your performance or disclose your salary.

How the timeout works

The employer-side request has a timeout. If the contact does not act within that window, the request lapses rather than staying open forever. This keeps requests fresh and prevents a pile-up of stale asks.

A lapsed request is not a rejection and not a black mark. You can simply request again, choose a different contact, or follow up outside the app.

Tips for a smooth verification

  • Pick the right person. A contact who can confirm the role avoids a wasted, timed-out request.
  • Give accurate details. Matching title and dates make confirmation easy.
  • Follow up politely. A quick nudge before the window closes can make the difference.
  • Re-request when needed. Timeouts happen; a new request is straightforward.

FAQ

How long does the employer have to respond?

The request carries a timeout window. If it is not actioned in time, the request lapses and you can send a new one.

What if my employer declines?

The role stays unverified. You can reach out to clarify, choose a different authorized contact, or leave the role unverified — which is not a mark against you.

Can I verify a role at a company that closed?

Only if a contact who can confirm the role is reachable. If not, the role may remain unverified, and that is normal.

Does verifying share private information?

It shares only what is necessary to confirm the role between you and the employer. See the privacy summary.

Will the badge appear on my resume?

Verification attaches to the role in your profile. Once confirmed, that verified status can be reflected when you present the role. The resume builder draws from your profile.
